A visual analysis platform that makes it easier for the user to explore and manage data. Accelerating the discovery process of information sharing.
Tableau was founded in 2003 as a result of a computer science project at Stanford that aimed to improve the flow of analysis and make data more accessible to people through visualization. Co-founders Chris Stolte, Pat Hanrahan and Christian Chabot developed and patented the basic technology of Tableau, VizQL, which visually expresses data by translating drag and drop actions into data queries through an intuitive interface. Since our founding, Tableau has continually invested in research and development at an unparalleled pace, developing solutions to help anyone working with data get answers faster and uncover unforeseen insights.
This includes making machine learning, statistics, natural language and intelligent data preparation more useful to increase human creativity in analysis. In this sense, Tableau not only offers a complete, integrated analytical platform, but also proven capabilities to help clients deploy and scale a data-driven culture that drives resilience and value through powerful results.
Tableau was acquired by Salesforce in 2019 and its mission remains the same: to help people see and understand their data. Today, organizations everywhere-from non-profit organizations to global companies, and across sectors and departments-are empowering their people with the platform to drive change with data.
